The antlered animals

Once I was with a hunter lying in wait for a woodcock, the bird from which I wanted to make a brush. It took a long time before it came, and as we were lying there quietly in the bushes, I had the feeling that someone was watching me.

I turned round slowly and saw a number of monsters staring at us. That was wonderful! So I said to myself that I would paint them with this hand-made brush in return. I painted a few stags and also one stag-beetle.
